Presentation

Dear Colleague,

It is a great pleasure for us to invite you to the forthcoming “EU-ISMET 2016”, the 3rd European Meeting of the International Society for Microbial Electrochemistry and Technology, which will take place in Rome (Italy) on 26-28 September 2016.  Following the tradition of previous successful EU-ISMET events (Gent 2012 and Alcalà, 2014), this 3-day meeting will bring together the scientific community to present and discuss the latest advances in research and industrial application of microbial electrochemical technologies.

Through the advise of a stellar International Scientific Committee, featuring among the others the three past and present ISMET Presidents (i.e., Prof. Bruce Logan, Prof. Korneel Rabaey, and Prof. Lars Angenent), EU-ISMET 2016 will discuss key topics such as electrosynthesis of valuable products, electron transfer mechanisms, electrobioremediation, as well as aspects of process development, microbiology, material science and many more.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee of EU-ISMET 2016 we look forward to seeing you in the wonderful setting of the “Eternal City”!

Topics

  • Microbial electrosynthesis and electro-fermentation
  • Novel applications of MET (e.g., bioremediation, biosensing; biocomputing)
  • Process engineering aspects of MET (e.g., design, modeling and applications for scale up of MET);
  • Successful and unsuccessful examples of up-scaled MET
  • Fundamentals of anodic and cathodic extracellular electron transfer processes (including direct interspecies electron transfer);
  • Microbiological characterization of mixed-culture MET (identification and characterization of “electro-active” microorganisms and consortia);
  • Novel microorganisms and synthetic biology approaches in microbial electrochemistry
  • Novel tools and techniques to study electroactive microorganisms and consortia (e.g., microscopy, spectroelectrochemistry; calorimetry…)

Journal Special Issue

The Journal FUEL CELLS (Wiley) will host a Special issue with papers presented at EU-ISMET2016, following full paper submission and peer review. Authors will be invited following the completion of the conference. Expected date of submission of full papers is end of December 2016.

FUEL CELLS Journal will also Sponsor the Best Poster Award!
